As soon as I stepped foot in Tokyo in 2008, I knew I had caught the travelling bug. I decided I didn't just want to travel I wanted to experience the world! The different cultures, the people, the sites and most importantly (to me) the food!

Recently I have started to develop an interest in photography and hope to improve my skills while doing what I love most.

Welcome to my journey........

Justin Bieber Fans

So I had my first taste of crazy Justin Bieber fan girkls yesterday in my afterschool. It was event day so they could play games and watch videos One of the videos was Justin Biebers 'Baby'. As soon as it came up the 6 grade girls were like 'I love him','He's so handsome' etc. Not missing a chance to tease my 6th grade girls I casually mentioned that he has a girlfriend now..... The whole room changed! 'I hate her', 'She's so ugly!' and my personal favourite..'I want to...(punching movements!)' .

I love teasing my 6th grade students!! Mwhahahaha (I also mentioned how pretty his girlfriend is and put her picture on the next PowerPoint :P)

Cosmetic shopping in Korea

Yesterday, I decided to pop into TonyMoly to get my friend a gift, as the cosmetics are so cute in there!!! Little did I know I would end up being stalked by a shop assistant…. Now shop assistants in Korea are persistent to say the least. As soon as you walk in a shop they are all over you like ants over candy. They will ask you if you need help and even if you say ‘No, I’m just looking’ they will stick by your side until they see someone else who is more likely to buy something. I get that they have been trained to do this but it’s bloody annoying!

Anyways back to the story. I went into TonyMoly in Dongdaemun and heard a shop assistant say something to me in Korea. ‘Mwhahaha’ I thought, I will just act like I can’t understand (well because I can’t…). But then I head her say Young-guk (English) to someone and for 2 seconds I was happy she didn’t say American which is suppose to be common here. FYI I haven’t been called American yet I don’t think… though I have been called Korean, Japanese, Russian and one other country which I have forgotten……. I don’t understand why as I think I look English (because I am!)

I keep going off the story! Sorry! So she said ‘Young-guk’ and I heard footsteps and this face with a big grin appeared! ‘Hello, May I help you’ said the too happy shop assistant. ‘Just looking’ I muttered and carried on looking. Then she kept picking up every product in the shop with a full description and demonstration. My hand had about 10 products on! I’m still washing the products off them. I tried to run away but the shop was small and she was stuck to my side all the time (there is no personal space here…).

She tried to spray one product in my face and looked hurt when I said no. She then showed me another product and told me it would get rid of my freckles!!! I was about to retort that you can’t get rid of freckles when she turned around with a hurt face and said ‘I’m just showing you products so you know what they are…’ FYI, The products have English on unlike the faceshop (I really do need a English speaker in the faceshop).

I also went to Olive and Young which was the opposite. The assistants didn’t come near me but hovered around the area and were talking to each other about me! I felt like a thief and you may think maybe they were worried about a foreigner being in there but it was in Doota so they should be used to foreigners!!

Cat cafe

On Friday, I went to a cat café.  As I told my mum before you don’t eat cats only stroke them. I went to the one in Myeongdong which is a lot smaller than others I’ve seen on the internet. It was quite easy to find as there is a guy in a giant cat costume walking around with directions which helps haha. Like I said before it was quite small and most of the cats were asleep!!!! How dare they?!!? Don’t they know I paid 8000 won (including one drink) to see them!

There was one evil cat near us so Julia kept trying to play with her but she ended up trying to scratch Julia. After a while the cat decided she liked me and she sat on my lap. Perhaps because we are both evil so we have something in common….

scratching Julia!

evil cat on my lap! She was obsessed with handbags!

It was better than the dog café as the cats were friendlier to customers. I reckon this is because cats just hate each other unlike dogs who want to play or hump each other…. But they do sleep more than dogs. A lot more!!!!

I really want to try out every cat and dog café! I heard there is a dog and puppy café where there are dogs one floor and puppies upstairs! Wow!!!

Quick late night update!

So I can't get to sleep as I'm over tired (thanks Janice). First things first, I got a letter back from the UK student loans company and my repayment is £33 a month. So not too bad.

Secondly, I am sooo tired! You know when you can feel the veins under your eyes and pattened wallpaper makes your head spin? Well that's my world right now. Plus the broken air condition in the main staff office does not help matters.

Thirdly, I just went out for a staff meal. It was yummy! It was half all you cam eat but then you also chose 3 courses! I seriously couldn't move after and had a food baby... I still have a line in my skin where my leggings were stretched. Some of us went to another English teachers house to see his dog. It's a husky (will post pictures soon!) and it's so cute! I miss Willow as the husky has her personality!

Also my mouth hurts. Everyone has some bug at the moment. My throat is swollen and my gums are swollen and the inside of my mouth has loads of ulcers!! :( Maybe it's lack of sleep that's brought my immune system down.

Going Costco yesterday but that's a whole blog to itself......

I am not a postive bunny this week truthfully as I just want sleep!! I'm going cat cafe tomorrow so that should cheer me up. :( I need a hug!!!! >-<

Dr fish.

Yesterday I did something that I’ve wanted to do since coming to Korea. In fact I’ve wanted to do it since I saw it on TV ages ago in the UK. The Dr fish! These little fish nibble the dead skin away on your feet. There are two sizes and I’m happy to say we chose the smaller size.

We hopped on the train to Myeongdong. Have I mentioned how much I hate Myeondong on a Saturday? So going there two weeks in a row was pure torture for me!! The place was so crowded! I should have got a picture. Maybe next time……. (if I am forced to go again on a Saturday……).

On our journey to finding the fish we popped into some stores. TONYMOLY was having a 30% sale so of course I had to go and have a look. I actually needed to go anyways. In Korea you get a dozen free samples whenever you buy something and I happened to like one of them. I also discovered this amazing peeling mist. I shall do a review blog of my new products ^-^

After, what seemed forever we made it! We had to wash our feet first then we put our feet into the pool of fish. It was a strange feeling. It was like someone was slightly tickling your feet. Melissa is ticklish so she kept moving her feet and got told off!! :P mwhahaha. We just sat there for ages just watching these fish eat our feet. They seemed to love me! Though I didn’t move haha :P

I actually didn’t notice much difference and they didn’t seem to eat where I considered the dry parts of my feet. My peeling mist did a better job later on. I think you would have to go about 10 times to see any difference (50 for my mum!).

After, we went to the Lotte department store. I always feel like I shouldn’t be there and I am making the place look dirty. We looked at the makeup counters and I treated myself to some fancy lip gloss and mascara.  Oh yeah!! I’m living the high life haha.

We then went to an Arabian restaurant. The place was really cool and was decorated throughout. I kind of wish I used the toilets now to see if they continued the theme there too! We had curry!! Yes my first proper curry in months! I ate until I couldn’t move!  We also had na’an which was so good and mine tasted like garlic bread (minus the sugar they put on garlic bread here!)

All in all today I hate my feet eaten and I spent far too much

I'm sorry. I don't know where the Dr fish is, as we walked around for a hour and just happened to find it. I think it's easiest to go from exit 6 and it's near the cat cafe ^^

My apartment part 2

Since I moved in 3 months ago, my school has brought me some bits for my apartment and I brought some myself over GMarket. Here is my new and improved apartment.....

I love my new apartment! So cute! Feels like home now. :)

Picnic by the lake.

On Sunday, I met my friends in Jeongbalsan for a picnic. We all brought different food to share but we ended up having too much haha. In fact we had enough to feed a small army!!
All the food!

The weather was so nice! In fact we had to sit under the shade it was that hot. There isn't much to write as we just chilled out for the day :)

Here's some pictures!

Jimjilbang

On Friday I went for my first Jimjilbang. This is a Korean spa and it’s naked!! There are three or more floors normally. One for women, one for men and one to just relax in the clothes they give you. I was nervous as I’m English and we don’t normally have our body on display as it’s so cold in the UK. Most of the year I wear a coat! I was certain I would chicken out so we got there and everyone was naked in the changing rooms, I didn’t know where to look! Luckily, I was with my friend Melissa who had been once before therefore she was more relaxed about the situation.  It took me a while to get the confidence to get completely naked and even then I covered myself with the tiny towel they gave us.

We went downstairs to the spa area and everyone was naked. It literally took me 2 seconds to think ‘why not?’ and remove my towel.  I must have been a nudist in another life haha! Anyways we went to have an adjumma scrub. Yes you heard right. You get scrubbed down by a adjumma in her underwear whilst your completely butt naked. It’s an experience in itself. We tried out all the different spas and saunas. I forgot I was naked a few times.

After we got changed and went upstairs to the shared area. My face was bright red as I have not much pigment in my skin so I got a few strange looks. They were some saunas in the main area so we chilled out in there for a while.  We also ate some boiled eggs Korean style.

All in all, I just have to say is…. I love jimjilbangs!! Dragon hill spa is only 10-12,000won entry (about a fiver) and for an adjumma scrub it cost 25,000 won (£12.50). And best of all they are 24hours so you can sleep in them J
